Tapestry: On hindsight

Tapestry has come and gone. A review of the past 24-36hrs

26th Aug, Friday 5pm
Rehearsal at Apollos Rm, GCTC
Big thanks to Simon and the forerunners. we were fortunate to have the use of the band room at the forerunner's quarters at GC. in fact, it was quite a blessing in disguise that geri din manage to book a studio by then. first thing dotz said to me as i entered the room was that i lost weight.... lemme repeat - LOST WEIGHT! wat a revelation... hadn't realised that about myself. but i guess with late nites and FYP this has to be the resultant outcome. anyway the band had a solid 6 hrs rehearsal session to iron out all 12 songs we were going to do. suffered sore fingers as a result... never had such a marathon practice session! ended up reaching home at 12, dead tired.

27th Aug, Saturday 830am
Our band met up at FourTones Studio at South Bridge Rd for our final rehearsal. At last the pieces are coming together, thought we sounded great. Morale high.

1130am
Recce of performance venue.
Went over to Ngee Ann City to check out the equipment. Was a little disappointed at what was on offer.... imagine having a keyboard with no cables or pedal.... no sound board as well, which means everything has to be controlled from the supplied amps - not really a good setup choice for an outdoor setting.

12noon
had lunch at kfc inside taka... dunno whether i ate too fast or whether anxiety got the better of me... ended up having serious indigestion just before the beginning of our gig.

130pm
through the pain barrier
turters pat, sara, dotz, joy, kat, jaime and manson attended the 130pm performance. also there were jeff, kenny and celeste. was suffering from both nervousness and stomach discomfort as i started the gig. tried my best to look smiley but guessed my neutral expression took over in the end =) hehz

by this time my fingers were starting to blister so had to tape them up... not a bad practice actually, my bass seemed to respond differently to the taped fingers. the first set went ok, despite the early nervousness, i was able to relax towards the end.

230pm
in serious pain by now... had to buy some digestion pills from the pharmacy at watson's... got more than i bargained for... endured a 10min mini-lecture on the human digestive system and the causes of indigestion from the duty pharmacist. went over to join manson and jeff after that at coffee bean.

4pm
joined the rest of the band at orchard library for chill out. fortunately my stomach stopped acting up by this time. took time to do some mental run-thru of the next set at 530.

530pm
2nd gig begins... william managed to pick up a keyboard pedal from church... so he was back to his old magic. compared to the first, the gig was rather messy and we weren't playing as tightly as we should. There were problems hearing one another as well... but anyway it was all over in 30min. some of us had dinner at cineleisure after the whole thing, and chatted til 8.

In all, tapestry had been a good experience. It was another step up in bass-playing education. Also enjoyed playing with the likes of geri, doug, bryne and william.... talented musicians in my opinion. Chances are that we might stick together as a band for future gigs. Exciting prospect =)

So for now... my little adventure in tapestry is over... time to focus on more impt things ahead in the next 3months or so.

What next?
